Hus bloody hands
Activists walked through the streets of Zurich, St. Gallen and Berne wearing masks depicting Hu Jintao and greeted pedestrians. Hu Jintao’s hands were red as if drenched in blood. Pedestrians reacted shocked and refused to shake his hand. The red hands symbolized the blood that sticks on Hu’s hands. The confused pedestrians were given a flyer explaining the meaning behind the campaign and were informed about the current situation in Tibet.
This campaign was staged just before the China trip of Swiss Federal Minister Johan N. Schneider-Ammann. He travelled to Beijing on 8th July 2012 in order to discuss the free trade agreement between China and Switzerland. The young activists demanded that he mentions the human rights situation in Tibet during his visit in China, and that he pushes for a human rights clause in the free trade agreement.
